Android 14 Launch - All You Need to Know

Android 14 will launch in a few hours (October 4).  Android 14 was first announced at Google I/O in 2023. What's even more exciting is that this launch is timed to coincide with a special Pixel launch event where we'll likely see the curtain lifted on not just one but two exciting gadgets – the Google Pixel 8 and the Google Pixel Watch 2.

Canadian carrier Telus revealed that all Pixel devices from the old Pixel 4a and onward will get their hands on Android 14 on the same day. While Telus' post may not be an official confirmation from Google, the chances are looking pretty good.

If it pans out, we expect to hear about Android 14 around 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET / 3 p.m. BST (or midnight on October 5 for our Aussie friends) – right when the Google Pixel 8 event starts.

The good news is that with Android 14, Google has stated that its OS will support satellite connectivity, but there are some important things to note. Firstly, we still need to find out what this support will look like, so it might not be an exact clone of Apple's version.

Secondly, having satellite connectivity isn't just about software; you need the right hardware, too. Some existing Android phones already have the necessary hardware, but many still need to.

Android 14 is here to give your phone a little extra juice with clever tweaks to improve battery life. Personally, I don't believe this will dramatically extend your battery usage, but Google has fine-tuned how your phone handles background tasks.
